A note on multi-criteria ABC inventory classification using weighted linear optimization

چکیده
Recently, Ramanathan (R., Ramanathan, ABC inventory classification with multiple-criteria using weighted linear optimization, Computer and Operations Research, 33(3) (2006) 695-700) introduced a simple DEA-like model to classify inventory items on the basis of multiple criteria. However, the classification results produced by Ramanathan are not consistent with the domination concept encouraged some researchers to extend his model. In this paper, we produce the correct results and compare them to the original results and those of the extended models. We also improve this model to rank items with an optimal score of 1 using a cross-efficiency technique. The classification results are considerably different from the original results. Despite the fact that the correct results are obtained in this paper, there is no significant difference between the original model and its extensions, while the original model is more simple and suitable for the situations in which decision-maker cannot assign specific weights to individual criteria.

About of Multi - Criteria ABC Inventory Classification, various models have been presented by researchers. Different results of items classification in these models have created a challenge for researchers. In this paper integrated techniques are used in order to compare the models results of Multi - Criteria ABC Inventory Classification. Presented model for determining the most appropriate mod...

متن کاملProviding a New Model to Improving DEA-based Models in Multi-criteria Inventory Classification (Case Study: Pars Khazar)
Abstract Objective: Many organizations use the ABC classification method to control their large amount of inventories. The most common way to classify inventories is the ABC method. In traditional ABC classification, items are only classified according to one criteria. But there are other criteria that need to be considered in the inventory classification. The purpose of this study is to prese...
متن کاملA simple classifier for multiple criteria ABC analysis
To have an efficient control of a huge amount of inventory items, traditional approach is to classify the inventory into different groups. Different inventory control policies can then applied to different groups. The well-known ABC classification is simple-to-understand and easy-to-use. However, ABC analysis is based on only single measurement such as annual dollar usage. It has been recognize...
متن کاملMulti-criteria ABC analysis using artificial-intelligence-based classification techniques
ABC analysis is a popular and effective method used to classify inventory items into specific categories that can be managed and controlled separately. Conventional ABC analysis classifies inventory items three categories: A, B, or C based on annual dollar usage of an inventory item. Multi-criteria inventory classification has been proposed by a number of researchers in order to take other impo...
